Making Transformative Change

OUR STATEMEMT ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND WELLBEING

At EWF, we believe that diverse, equitably weighted perspectives strengthen our ability to develop innovative solutions that improve health access in historically under-reached communities. As an organization that works primarily in Africa, we recognize the continued impact of racism, colonial legacies and unequal power dynamics in the global health sector and in the countries where we work.

To align our values, innovations and impact, EWF is committed to fostering diverse workforce and creating spaces for open dialogue around issues of race, colonialism, gender, identity and culture. We are committed to take concrete actions to identify and address historic, social and structural power imbalances that shape global health and development.

We recognize the leadership and autonomy of national governments, communities and local institutions. Our work prioritizes locally-led solutions by ensuring that governments, health workers and communities play a central role in shaping the design, implementation and sustainability of programs.

EWF also strives to communicate responsibly about the communities we serve by avoiding deficit-based language or imagery and promoting respectful, accurate representation in our communications.

We further recognize that the wellbeing of the people who carry out this work; our staff, partners and communities, is essential to achieving sustainable impact. We therefore seek to foster environments where people feel supported, respected and able to contribute meaningfully to advancing our mission.

DIVERSITY

Diversity refers to the differences between people. Diversity includes, but is not limited to, differences of color, nationality, tribe or place of origin, race, religion, gender, disability, HIV/AIDS status, age, sexual orientation and gender expression or identity. EWF values a diverse work environment because different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives expand potential approaches to problem solving and, furthermore, support the advancement of the EWF mission. A diverse work environment is attractive and important from both internal and external perspectives. Given the specific geographies where we operate, EWF is categorically committed to improving racial, cultural and experiential diversity among the members of our team.

EQUITY

Equity is the promotion of justice, objectiveness and fairness within the policies, processes and distribution of resources within EWF to provide equal opportunity for staff. Our focus is on identifying and eliminating barriers that have prevented the full participation and opportunity of growth for some groups.1

INCLUSION

Inclusion is an organizational commitment to and practice of creating a work atmosphere where all individuals feel welcomed, valued, respected, and supported. We believe that an inclusive environment enables and promotes meaningful employee contributions, supports employees to realize their personal and professional potential and strengthens the impact of our organizational work.

WELLBEING

Wellbeing recognizes that people are at the center of sustainable impact. EWF is committed to fostering environments where individuals feel supported in their professional and personal wellbeing.

We believe that when people experience respect, belonging and balance in their work, they are better able to collaborate, innovate and contribute to advancing our mission of improving health care access for all.
