WHAT WE DO | HEALTH WORKFORCE
Strengthening the health workforce by supporting a well trained, paid and professional health workforce across every structure of the PHC.
Workforce Improvement
illageReach takes a holistic approach to health workforce development, from the community level all the way to national decision-makers. We build government capacity and develop leaders to improve health system efficiency, introduce innovation and sustain impact at scale. Our training and capacity-building programs expose health workers and managers to new approaches, systems and tools to improve health care delivery in remote settings. This includes new curricula and learning tools, task-shifting strategies, recruitment and retention strategies, eLearning tools, workforce deployment models, coaching/mentorship, peer-to-peer learning, and supportive supervision.
Together, we break the ‘training cycle’ and promote sustainable, cost-efficient approaches.
Supply Chain Workforce Strengthening
Health systems are only as strong as the people working within them. EWF works with supply chain personnel and the health care workforce at national and local levels to ensure they have the training, resources and products they need for health care delivery. We collaborate with governments and partners to make sure the public health supply chain workforce is adequately staffed, skilled, motivated, and has a supportive working environment.

Pharmacy Assistants Program
The availability of essential maternal and child health commodities is key in preventing maternal and child deaths. Through it’s Pharmacy support program, EWF works in collaboration with several registered pharmaceutical companies to purchase and distribute maternal and child health commodities to health facilities in remote, riverine, migrant, disadvantaged communities who have interrupted access to essential maternal and child health commodities. To ensure this process, EWF works with governments licensed pharmaceutical companies to purchase commodities at a cheaper rate and made them available at the pharmacies of these health facilities. Additionally, EWF conducts capacity building for the pharmacy attendants in stock and inventory management.
Emergency Operations Professionals
EWF has highly qualified trained Emergency preparedness and response professionals who support governments efforts in epidemic response. EWF is invested in training public health professionals in Epidemic Response and deploying across epidemic prone districts to support governments efforts in preparing and responding to health epidemics and pandemics. In Cameroon, EWF supported the functionality of the Public Health Emergency Operation Centers in several regions. Through these centers, EWF has supported the government of Cameroon in responding to Cholera, measles, monkey pox and COVID-19 outbreaks. We equally carryout routine community surveillance for early detection of epidemics.
Supply Chain for Community Health Workers
Community health workers remain the backbone of our successful interventions and are an integral part of our team. EWF’s interventions are based on the principle of community engagement and active participation. For CHWS to be able to effectively support the health system, they must have the required knowledge, fully equipped, adequately supported and recognized for their efforts. EWF conducts routine capacity building workshops for CHWs, provide them with necessary communities tools, remunerate them for their work and showcase their work and contribution through out all EWFs platforms.
Supporting Community Health Workers
Imagine a world where everyone has access to essential health care. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are the backbone of this vision, serving as the closest link to health services for many in Africa. But CHWs need more than dedication – they need support. EWF collaborates with governments and communities to prioritize CHW needs, ensuring they have the vital tools and health commodities to keep their communities healthy. We advocate for CHW training, supervision and professionalization, because a well-supported CHW workforce is the key to achieving health care for all.
